The 3m Gravity Corer is easy to use and very cost-effective. The entire corer is made from carbon steel and is fitted with stabilising fins to ensure that the corer penetrates the seabed in a straight line. The standard lead weights supplied with the corer comprise of 4 layers, each weighing 62kg. Each layer comes in two segments and the total added weight is 248kg.

A replaceable core liner is housed within the carbon steel barrel to ensure that it is simple to remove the collected sample. The barrel is fitted with a sharpened replaceable carbon steel core cutter to ensure minimal disturbance. Sample loss on retrieval is minimised by a core catcher fitted inside the end of the barrel.

Deep Water Operation

Variable Coring Parameters
The two standard configurations are designed to take high quality cores of 3 m or 6 m length, in ordinary PVC liners with an internal diameter of 106mm. The penetration force can be adjusted by varying the deadweights on the vibrator head.

Lightweight Structure & Small Vessel Operation
This modular vibrocorer system can be assembled manually in less than 2 hours (a crane is required to bring it upright) and can be deployed from a relatively small vessel. The AQUAscat transmits pulses of high frequency sound on up to four transducers, each of which may operate at a different frequency. It measures the sound scattered by sediment or other suspended materials at discrete spatial intervals programmable from 2½ millimetres to 4 centimetres. For altimetry, this may span a few tens of centimetres; for monitoring sediment suspension profiles, a total range of around 1-2 metres is typical; while dredge plume estimation may extend to 10 metres.
