MSI was formed in September 2003 by Stefan Stimson, Sidney Bilski and Bruce Spolander, former colleagues at a major survey multi-national (Thales GeoSolutions) where they were responsible for the overall management, marketing and operations of the global metocean business. After 3 years of steady growth, MSI opened an office in Australia to support projects in the Australia and Asia region. 

The management team has over 50 years experience in the offshore oil and gas industry, and is supported by a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced engineers with vast global experience. From offices in South Africa and Australia, the company has conducted projects in over 40 countries worldwide, with 140+ clients that include the offshore oil & gas market, coastal engineers, dredging companies and port authorities.

MSI continuously invests in state of the art instrumentation and owns and operates a large pool of equipment, including wave buoys, current meters / profilers, tide gauges, conductivity, temperature and depth profilers (CTDs), and weather stations.
